Fill Tool: The fill tool helps you to put color inside shapes images or spaces. You have a variety of colors and textures for you to chose. The difference between fill and gradient fill is that with fill you can only select one solid color and with gradient you can go from one tone to another one. First you need to clik on the icon of the tool than in the color that you want and after all you clik on the place where you want your color to be.
Gradient Fill: As we already mentioned the fill tool is for coloring spaces, but with gradient fill you can get a gradient effect meaning from one tone of color to another one. You first need to click on the icon than into your first and second colors and after all you make a line in the direction in the place where you want your gradient effect to appear.
The text tool permits you to input text in your file. You have plenty of fonts sizes and colors for your letters to be. This tool is very helpful for making posters announcements or any kind of propaganda. You first need to click on the text icon and then in the place of your document where you want your text box to be.
VocabularyCanvas: works space or image. The canvas size is actually the size of an image. Alpha channel: channel in an image that has a transparent characteristic. deselect: stay with no thing selected
File extensions
.xcf: extension used for Gimp images. You can open an xcf image in Gimpshop and still have the layers. .png: extension used to save images with transparent background. .jpg: extension to safe images.

You select the color that you want ant than you click on the place where you want the color to be. The difference between fill and gradient fill is that with fill you can just put one flat color, on the other hand with gradient fill you can put two colors getting a gradient effect, this means from one color to the other one.

Change order of layers: For your layer box to appear you need to press ctrl l, and than yu would get it. This is the option that permits you to put and organize your images and layers where you want them to be either at the front back or in the middle. This is useful when you are working with lots of images or text boxes.
Rectangular selection tool: Works for selecting any rectangular piece of any layer and drawing on it, coloring it, or moving it. It also works for choosing a part of an image and copying it (you may use feather edges) to save it as a new image. The rectangular selection tool might work to draw a picture or paint a part while dooing a poster. You can also use it when you have a collage made of many pictures and want to select or use only a part of it. It is similar to the hand free selection tool and to the circular selection tool. Circular selection tool: Works for selecting any eliptical piece of any layer and drawing on it, coloring it, or moving it. You can also select parts of an image with a circular shape, for dooing posters, and works very well with cartoons like the ones of Disney. When you want to chose a face or something like that Crop: cut the outer parts of a canvas leaving it with a rectangular shape. You can use crop to modify easily a given image and stay with just a rectangular part of it. You can also cut parts of an image with the rectangular selection tool but the difference with the crop is that when you use that tool you have to create a new image and with crop you just cut the one you have. Saving images with a transparent background: When you have images that have parts with no background you have to safe them with the .png extension and uncheck the save background colors. Zoom in and out tool: Helps you get closer to the image to see more detailed or away from it to see the entire picture.
ex: if you want to fix wrinkles, you zoom in to be able to look more detailed the picture.
Hand drawn region selection: To choose a part from the layer and be able to move it.
ex: if you have a drawing of many characters and you want to choose only one, then you cut the one character and paste it in another layer.
Eye Dropper: Helps you select a color from a picture and put it in the background or a shape.
ex: if a picture has the color that you want for a shape or a background, then you choose the color with the eye dropper.
Merge down: Makes two layers merge or join.
ex:if you have to different drawings, each one in one layer and you want the m to be together or joined, you merge the layers. Magic Wand: The magic wand is use to cut the edge of the pictures or images. ex: If you have a image with a ugly backround you can cut it and make it nicer. Brush: To draw freely in a blank document or draw over a picture or image.
ex: You can write your name or do a drawing in a blank document. Move: Is a tool use to move a image, object or picture freely through the document.
